Bugger. PlanetSide 2 has finally released on PS4, and while it was up and running pretty nicely earlier on today(in the EU), the servers have now been taken down.
For those who managed to get into the game earlier today, the option buy in-game battle-packs and membership subscriptions worked as they should. However, since the servers have been having a wobble, players are experiencing issues with their purchases no longer showing up. Don’t panic, though, as the developers are aware of the problem and have assured fans that once the EU and NA servers are back up and running, purchases should be restored without issue. The team is currently working to get the servers back online for all regions, though the times may be scattered due to PS Store updates.
Phew. Those battle packs aren’t exactly cheap so it’d be a massive headache if they suddenly disappeared without a means to retrieve them.
Download the game from PSN here.
That said, players are also having problems with their characters, namely that they have disappeared during the server down-time. This should also be rectified when the servers go back online. So while the character you created earlier may not show up right now, once the servers are functioning, they should reappear just as you created them.
Now, for those with friends across the globe, PlanetSide 2 doesn’t allow for players from EU to play with people from NA due to the servers being region locked.
It’s not the end of the world, though, as the game’s director of development has stated that the servers are region locked at the moment, but the team is considering unlocking them in a month or two. So, if like us, you’ve got buddies around the world (or you just want to wage war against another continent,) the possibility is there.
[Update] North American players should be able to start playing right about now as the NA severs have gone live. EU servers are still a no-go…
