Sony has been dropping all kinds of mad-bombs this morning over in Tokyo. During its conference before the big kick-off of the annual Tokyo Games Show, Sony announced that the PS4 would be getting a big price cut in the platform holder’s native Japan.
The console will now have a RRP of 34,980 Yen which translates to around $290 or £187. It’s great news for Japanese gamers who’ve yet to take the dive into the next-gen, but it’s also a sure sign of desperation from Sony; the PS4 hasn’t really sold as well as expected in Japan due to the increase in mobile gaming and a lack of dedicated JRPG’s.
There’s no word just yet on a western price-drop, but given that Sony will be present at Paris Games Week in October, it’s not completely out of the question that the firm will make an announcement of sorts then.
