Ubisoft can’t seem to keep anything a secret these days, within the last couple of weeks along we’ve had the leak of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and the unknown project named Assassin’s Creed: Rising Phoenix, and now they’ve gone and revealed the pricing of PlayStation 4 games. D’oh!
PS Nation originally discovered within the Ubisoft website source code that the special editions for the next-generation versions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will fall in line with the pricing of the current-generation versions, £119.99, with the PC version getting the mandatory £10 reduction as is standard with PC titles.
It’s a bit of a blow for Ubisoft who will no doubt be embarrassed to be the source of yet another leak, but for gamers this is great news. We all feared that games would go up in price, surpassing the already steep £40-£59.99 retail prices, though I think it’s fair to say that if you buy digital expect to pay the higher price.
It’s worth noting at this time that this isn’t confirmation on what the PlayStation 4 games will cost, but it’s pretty solid. Though if publishers have their way, EA especially, prices could go up further down the line, just as they did with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Games were once £29.99 brand new at retail, then they made the steep jump upwards, so don’t be surprised to see it again.
Also, prices may even differ between the PlayStation 4 and the next-Xbox, especially if the rumours of the next-Xbox not being able to play pre-owned games holds true.
