There’s another Deadliest Warrior game out now for the Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Marketplace. Yes, another one. The previous entries weren’t terrible, but they could have been so much more than they were, so you’ll have to forgive our apparent lack of enthusiasm for this downloadable game.
The latest installment based upon the TV documentary series of the same name is Deadliest Warrior: Battlegrounds. The new game offers online multiplayer that should add a welcome twist to the franchise, though whether the other aspects have been tweaked, we couldn’t say for sure until we’ve actually gotten some hands-on time with the game.
For the uninformed, the Deadliest Warrior games are historical fighting games that put players in the roles of ancient (sometimes not so ancient) combatants and let them have at it with their weapons from the ages. It’s an interesting idea and the TV show actually isn’t half bad if you’re into your history and what not. In honesty, we’ve always felt that while the games are nothing to write home about, fans of the TV show will always find something to enjoy.
So if you’re a history nut with a fetish for ancient combat this one’s for you. If you’re on the edge and need something to help you decide whether it’s worth a punt ($14.99) then there’s a free demo to download and install that’ll give you a taste of what Deadliest Warrior: Battlegrounds has to offer. For those who will be downloading it no matter what, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s not going to take up a whole lot of space on your hard drive as the game is only around 500MB in size.
Will you be taking this historical brawler for a spin, or do you prefer your combatants to have been designed by a pervy old man, a la Street Fighter? Let us know down in the comments section below.
