Flame Fox Yoho Boss Strategy
Core Mechanics
Damage over Time Debuff
The main mechanic that is consistent throughout the fight with Flame Fox Yoho is that taking damage from fire will place a debuff on your character that deals fire damage over time, lasts 20 seconds, and can stack up to 20 times which will cause massive damage.
Using the Battle Item Panacea or having a teammate use the Sacred Charm next to you will remove the entire stack of debuffs.
Damage Buff Mechanic
There is also the mechanic that gives you an increased damage buff on your character when you receive damage from three abilities. Using a classes shield ability (such as the Bard, Paladin, and Gunlancer) can help mitigate damage while still being able to obtain the buff.
Special Attacks
Fire Breath
Breathes fire in a cone in front of the Boss. Flame Fox Yoho uses this in all phases of the fight, most consistent way to obtain the Damage Buff.
Orbital Flame Ring
During Phase 1, the boss will start to cast spinning orbs in a large radius around the boss. At the end of the cast it will explode, giving the buff to only the person with the lowest health value. Many times the bard will receive this as they usually have the lowest health. Dash out of range to avoid getting it.
Orbs of Power
During Phase 2, the boss will stop and periodically shoot out 5 Orbs from her body. Those orbs will create new portals that also shoot orbs out of them. Collect 3 orbs to gain the Buff.
Alternatively you can use Battle Items such as the Protective Potion if your class doesn’t have a shield.
Powerup
Periodically, she will begin to gather energy around to make her stronger. This can be stopped with skills that have high impairment.
Alternatively you can use Battle Items: Whirlwind Grenade and Clay Grenade are your best choice.
Flame Patches
Flame Fox Yoho will place pools of fire on the ground left behind from various attacks. This will apply the debuff and can interrupt abilities casting. They will continue to pile up over the course of the fight and will require good position of the boss to ensure optimal safe spots.
Flame Spin
Flame Fox Yoho will do a 360 degree spin and cause random areas on the ground to remain on fire.
Stages
Flame Fox Yoho will run away at certain phases of the fight and you will have to find her again. There are 3 phases to the fight. After teleporting a new phase will begin and the boss will gain access to a few new and upgraded abilities.
Stage 1 Attack Patterns
Charge
Flame Fox Yoho will turn towards a random player, lean back slightly, and then perform a charge in the direction she is facing.
Counter Measures: When she turns to face a player, start moving perpendicular to where the boss is facing.
Swift Charge
Similar to the normal Charge but a much faster charging animation. Flame Fox Yoho will slightly bow forward and then charge in a forward direction.
Counter Measures: The telegraphing animation is fairly short so make sure you are not in front of her when she bows.
Spin Clone
Flame Fox Yoho will howl and teleport; then squeal, perform a spinning attack while simultaneously spawning a clone that will also perform a spinning attack.
Counter Measures: When she initially teleports, run away from her and once the clone spawns, charge in safely after the first spinning attack.
Jump Slam
Flame Fox Yoho will growl quickly and jump straight up and slam straight down.
Counter Measures: Dodge away when you see her rise.
Random Fireballs
Flame Fox Yoho will lift her head and scream causing fireballs to appear from above her head and travel downward in random directions. The fireballs create pools of fire that remain on the ground.
Counter Measures: The fireballs do not travel very far from her body, so be aware of where they are heading and move the boss away from the pools of fire left behind.
Targeted Fireballs
Flame Fox Yoho will stiffen and slowly turn towards the targeted player tracing their movement. Two projectiles are sent in phase 1.
Counter Measures: This one is unavoidable from close range. From a distance run in a direction perpendicular to where the boss is facing.
Meteor
Flame Fox Yoho will turn towards a random target, scream, fly into the sky, twirl in the shape of a meteor and crash to the ground.
Counter Measures: This can be avoided by running, if you are slower, you can use the spacebar dash move.
Stomp
Flame Fox Yoho will turn towards a random target and walk towards them and stomp once with her front right leg.
Counter Measures: Stay behind or dash behind her.
Tail Spin Forward
Flame Fox Yoho will turn away showing her tail in front and then swipe with it forwards.
Counter Measures: This happens very quickly and may be hard to avoid.
Tail Slam
Flame Fox Yoho will slightly bend her head forward then quickly slam her tail down behind her.
Counter Measures: This happens very quickly and may be hard to avoid but try to dash away backwards.
Tail Swipe
Flame Fox Yoho will turn her head slightly toward the side then quickly swipe her tail to that side.
Counter Measures: This happens very quickly and may be hard to avoid but try to dash away towards her front.
Corkscrew
Flame Fox Yoho will jump and spin backwards. There is no damage associated with this ability.
Stage 2 Attack Patterns
Upgraded Jump Slam
Flame Fox Yoho will growl quickly and jump straight up and slam straight down. Now adds 2 more jump slams that track a player
Counter Measures: Dodge away when you see her rise, then the targeted player needs to keep moving away.
Strut
Flame Fox Yoho will slowly walk in a direction while fireballs rain from the sky leaving behind fire patches.
Counter Measures: Dodge away when you see her rise, then the targeted player needs to keep moving away.
Stage 3 Attack Patterns
Upgraded Spin Clone
Flame Fox Yoho will howl and teleport; then squeal, performing a spinning attack while simultaneously spawning 4 clones at each cardinal direction (North, East, South West) that will also perform a spinning attack.
Counter Measures: Ranged players can safely position themselves at 45 degrees to where she teleports. For melee, when she initially teleports, run away from her and once the clones spawns, charge in after the first spinning attack.
Upgraded Swift Charge
Swift Charge now has 3 charging attacks.
Counter Measures: The telegraphing animation is fairly short so make sure you are not in front of her when she bows. Subsequent charges cause her to turn fairly slowly towards her target
Fireball Rain
Similar to the Random Fireballs, Flame Fox Yoho will lift her head and howl causing fireballs to appear from random points in the sky and travel downward in random directions. These fireballs are slow moving and then create pools of fire that remain on the ground.
Counter Measures: Avoid the projectiles and fire pools.
Upgraded Random Fireballs
Flame Fox Yoho will no longer lift her head, instead she first prepares a breath upward and the leans forward and roars causing fireballs to appear from above her head and travel downward in random directions. The fireballs create larger pools of fire that remain on the ground.
Counter Measures: Most fireballs do not travel very far from her front, so be aware of where they are heading and move the boss away from the pools of fire left behind.
Upgraded Targeted Fireballs
Flame Fox Yoho will raise her head and roar and fireballs will quickly emerge from her chest. Four projectiles are launched in phase 3.
Counter Measures: This one is still unavoidable from close range, but you may be able to out pace them if you run directly away from her. Ranged players can still run in a direction perpendicular to where the boss is facing.
