It seems that some people are less than happy with the entry price for the Wii U, especially Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
Speaking to GameIndustry.biz, the fussy CEO acknowledged that the Wii U is a fairly cheap console, but he isn’t 100% happy with the price and would like to see Nintendo bring down the price in the near future.
“I always prefer lower pricing, so I can’t say I’m happy. I’m never happy when machines are expensive. What we have to do there is remember that compared to an iPad, it’s cheap. With what it brings [to the gaming table] it’s cheap. But I hope they’ll be able to drop their price in time.”
While us gamers will agree with Yves Guillemot that cheaper consoles is a good thing, Nintendo won’t. They have already stated that the Wii U will be sold at a loss to the firm so that they can put it out at the lowest possible price, so a price-drop won’t be happening anytime soon. In fact, it all seems a bit daft to be speaking about a price drop for a console that hasn’t even come out yet. The bottom line is, it’s a cheap console that brings Nintendo into the world of HD gaming with their own innovative twist with the tablet/controller hybrid.
I for one am looking forward to the release of the Wii U, a fresh new console is always an exciting time for us gaming lot, the release of the Wii U will be no different. With an impressive launch line up, I suspect the Wii U will be snapped up just like the Wii was when it released all those years ago.
What do you think? Is it cheap enough for you, or will you be watching out for a price drop or a pre-owned deal?
