For UK PlayStation owners it has been a long, long wait for PS Now. Since the service launched in the UK in July, we’ve been having an on-off relationship with it – but here isn’t the place to have a whinge about how it does and doesn’t work. For our quick review of PS Now, point your clicking device here and click away.
The service initially launched for PS4, but today we’ve learned that PS Vita owners can finally take part in the experience. If you mosey on over to the PS Vita’s PSN store you should find the PS Now app available to download. It’s not too taxing on memory card space, either, as it only clocks in around 50Mb plus a 39Mb downloadable update.
You’ll be able to choose a selection of games to rent – though the prices are nothing worth shouting about – and you’ll be able to play them directly on your PS Vita. Sony has promised that more titles will be added in the future, but for now we’re only getting PS3 games.
When the PS Vita was first announced all those years ago, Sony said it would allow players to play PS3 games via remote play – something that never quite took off… Still, better late than never, eh? The only drawback being the lag, lowered image quality and the fact you have to pay games that you most likely own – but it’s better than nothing and it gives us an excuse to recover the PS Vita from the dusty cupboard.
We’ll be posting our thoughts on how well PS Now works on the PS Vita, but in the mean time it might be worth giving it a go for yourself.
