PlayStation Now is a nifty little way of playing your older games on your newer consoles. For the time being, PS Now is only streaming PS3 titles but in the future it will allow PS2 and even PS1 games to be streamed to any capable device.
The UK service has so far only been a rental service where you pay a set fee per-game. Today, Sony has launched the subscription service to UK players, quite some time after it was introduced to our North American cousins.
The service includes a 7-day free trial where you can access as many subscription games as you can get your hands on. So far the likes of Darksiders II, Dead Island Riptide, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune are all on offer within the subscription.
Some other highlights include:
- Infamous
- Infamous 2
- Ratchet and Clank
- Sly Cooper
- Crazy Taxi
- Motorstorm Apocalypse
And many more. Go ahead and give it a go, but remember: once the free trial ends, it’s gonna cost you £12.99 a month. Not a bad price really as we were expecting something more along the lines of £20.
[Update] We’ve just given it a quick run on the PS4 and PS Vita. The results are actually very surprising. The PS4 is responsive as hell and it took no time at all to get Crazy Taxi up and running. So far, so smooth.
However, the PS Vita is another story. We’ve previously tested PS Now on the Vita and found it was alright, but far from perfect. It’s still pretty much the case, but the app that the service uses is downright terrible to the point of being unusable at times. Browsing what’s available is a chore and once you do find what you’re looking for you may get a message saying that the game is no longer available, even when you’ve just booted it up on the PS4. So yeah, the PS Vita’s app could do with a bit of tinkering. The performance when you do get into a game is still pretty good, though, however, the PS4 wired into the router performed much better and the input lag was absolutely minimal.
