You know the way a Game of Thrones has one of the most iconic intros of all time? Well the guy that composed the theme playing in the background, of said intro, is making the soundtrack for, the 10th of November’s, Rise of the Tomb Raider. Does this musical man have a name? Why yes he does and its Bobby Tahouri. If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan then you might recognise Tahouri’s music from Iron Man, or Despicable Me.
However this is no normal soundtrack, it’s procedurally generated, but only during stealth sequences. This works through a “middleware system” licenced by Intelligent Music Systems. How does this work? Well “this system analyses Tahouri’s compositions and dynamically composes new music, making every play through unique.” This sounds like a pretty neat idea, although it’s not one we can imagine a lot of players paying attention to.
More importantly we here at The Games Cabin spend an extraordinary amount of time wondering what HBOs Game of Thrones might look like if GRRM gave them the rights to make it in the 90s. Well at last we have our answer and it’s whimsical.
