By now it’s common knowledge that the once major publisher THQ fell victim to bankruptcy and its many IPs were sold off to the highest bidder. Well one of those bidders was Nordic Games who laid claim to the Darksiders IP, amongst others. They recently rereleased the second game in that series for current-gen under the name Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, but as you probably guessed they didn’t buy the IP just to upscale the second game and a recent quote in the Steam Forums sheds some light on their future plans.
The quote goes like this: “Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition was just the start. Since we acquired the franchise we were looking for options for doing a DS3. The remaster was just a way to get some spotlight on the franchise again, reactivate the community and have a better starting position for DS3.”
The fact that they’re using the remaster to “reactivate the community” implies that Darksiders 3 isn’t that far off, because what’s the point in putting the franchise back in the “spotlight” now if the third game is still a few years away. Another thing the remaster implies is that Nordic is planning to continue the franchise where THQ left off instead of rebooting the series, this is reinforced by the fact that the said “DS3” in the quote and not DS or DS Reboot.
If you want to catch up with the series you could always pick up the second game on Amazon UK.
