The Street Fighter games have come along way since their simple beginnings as 2D sprits moving along the screen. Even back then the ladies were designed in such a way that kids on the school yard debated who they’d bang.
Fast forward 20 years and it’s pretty much the same, except that with the advances of 3D graphics these digital females are rendered much more accurately. However, some people aren’t too fond of the sexualisation of characters.
Street Fighter V character Cammy has an intro whenever she decides to kick the crap out of someone else, just like all other characters do. The problem for some was that Cammy’s intro showed a bit too much going on in the nether regions, more specifically, a gratuitous shot of the characters bum and lady area. It’s since been edited and the camera angle is now a touch higher to obscure Cammy’s lower region. It’s not a big deal but that hasn’t stopped some from claiming that all the characters will be donning Burkhas in the full release.
There’s a video down below, see if you can spot the change.
In all honesty, we’re not bothered by it. If anything, it’s a little less cringeworthy this way because, honestly, with the internet on just about every device these days, it’s not hard to go and find something a bit more real, is it?
This isn’t the first time that Cammy’s design has come under fire either. Many Japanese players complained that her change in look from IV to V was aimed at non-Japanese gamers instead of the developers native customers.
Street Fighter V launches on PS4 and PC February 16th, 2016. You can pre-order your copy here.
