Do you want to write about video games? Good, because we want writers to write about video games. If you want to write about My Little Pony, you can sod off.
We’re a small team at the moment but we’re looking to expand. Please find below the current job openings, and then go even further down for more details.
News Writer
News writers bring expert knowledge of all things video games. You’ll be well versed in English, you wont rite lyk dis, and you’ll have a sharp wit to inject a bit of fun into what you do. News writers are expected to write at least one news piece per day.
Requirements: Good command of the English language, especially in the written form. Able to produce at least one piece of news coverage per day.
Reviewer
Reviewers will play games, then write about them. Simple. Ok, it’s a little more complex. You’ll have to play a game thoroughly and put your thoughts into a cohesive and easy to read review. You’ll know when a game is a damp squib, but you’ll also be fair in critiques. Review copies/codes available occasionally.
Requirements: Good command of the English language, especially in the written form. Able to produce at least on review per week, or four per month.
News Editor
Wow, this is a big job. You’ll not only be writing the daily news, but you’ll also be going through what the rest of The Games Cabin’s monkeys have been writing and correcting all the mistakes.
Requirements: Good command of the English language, especially in the written form. Able to produce at least one piece of news coverage per day. Experience in a similar role desired, but not necessarily needed.
Reviews Editor
A bit like the News Editor, except that all reviews will be run through you before going live on-site. You’ll make sure all reviews are formatted to the site specifications and that they’re easily digestible by our hungry readers.
Requirements: Good command of the English language, especially in the written form. Able to produce at least one piece of news coverage per day. Experience in a similar role desired, but not necessarily needed.
Video Content Creator
We’re quite prolific when it comes to the written word, but our Youtube channel is a little barebones. You’ll create video content to appease the ADHD crowd who haven’t got the patience to read words. Video reviews, video previews, video everything.
Requirements: The ability to create videos with your own equipment. Able to produce at least one video per week.
Site Administrator
Ok, this is possibly the biggest responsibility on the site. You’ll be tinkering away behind the scenes to make sure the mothership doesn’t come crashing down at peak times. Proven experience in a similar role is required. Can’t just have any old Dave come marching in to much around with our servers know, can we.
Requirements: Previous experience in a similar role is critical.
Community Manager
You’ll be the forward-facing person on the site. You’ll manage all Facebook and Twitter interactions and give The Games Cabin a social feel. You’ll also be responsible for finding new way for us to reach readers and communicate with them e.g Other social media platforms, newsletters etc etc.
Requirements: Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage, but it’s not necessary. You’ll be able to check-in on the site on a daily basis and promote articles via social media etc. You’ll be the public persona of The Games Cabin and will engage in any and all banter on Twitter. Sounds like a good laugh, actually.
Moderator
You’ll be hated. You’ll be the hero that The Games Cabin needs, but not the hero it wants. It’ll be your job to take your mighty powers to the comments section and keep them clean. See somebody fanning the flames on a console war? Extinguish. See some racist pleb making inappropriate comments? Take them out the back and kick the crap out of them. (Or just block them from commenting…) You’ll keep the comments in check and promote a friendly, fun atmosphere for readers to get together and discuss what we all love: games!
Requirements: Experience in a previous role would be an advantage, but it’s not necessary. You’ll be checking-in on the site every day to make sure the comments are clear of naughty words and naughtier people. You’ll be happy to engage with readers and will have a good sense of humour.
