The Xbox One was originally attached the Kinect at release, though Microsoft quickly backtracked and allowed players to get the Xbox One experience without having to shell out for the Kinect. The Xbox One’s Kinect features allow users to control the device with gestures rather than using a controller, though from our experience it’s less Minority Report and more Karate Kid wax-on-wax-off. Still, nice to have the option for it.
Well, that’s changing. Microsoft will be removing gesture commands from the Xbox One in the new update for the console.
“With gestures, the reality was the usage was very, very low,” he said. “So for now, we’ve cut that from the New Xbox One Experience. So when we launch, they won’t be in the product. We’ll continue to monitor and listen to feedback to see if people want them in” Mike Ybarra told Windows Central.
It means that you’ll no longer be able to wave your arms around to switch between apps, but you will still be able to use voice commands as they’re staying. In all honesty, we can’t say that this feature will be missed too much. Not many people used it and if it frees up more techno-wizard-stuff for the Microsoft Xbox engineers to tinker with and improve the console further, we’ve got no problems there.
