A Dead Island 2 open world exploring the stunning city of Los Angeles would be a brilliant sight. Perhaps we’ll visit the Chinese Theatre and Venice Beach as we strike down zombies in our wake. Here’s everything we know on if a Dead Island 2 open world is available.
- Dead Island 2 was going to release in 2016 before it was delayed.
Can you explore a Dead Island 2 open world?
The original Dead Island has a tropical destination, but in Dead Island 2, you venture through Los Angeles. The game’s name doesn’t make sense anymore but it does indeed have explorable areas; they’re just separated into zones.
The game is set up like Sonic Frontiers, the Borderlands series, and Dragon Age Inquisition. There will be locations you can explore, but they’re not fully integrated into one seamless open world.
GameSpot compares the game in their preview more to BioShock than the original Dead Island. “While this is a much more linear game than its predecessors, there are many optional nooks in each area,” said Mark Delaney for the outlet.
“I encountered many locked rooms, safes, and loot caches that would each require further investigating or even backtracking, some of which wasn’t possible in my limited demo,” he said.
In summary, there isn’t an open world per se, but the areas you explore are thoroughly detailed. One of the common complaints of having an open world is the dull blank space in between; having a more direct linear style may be better for the Dead Island sequel.
- Whatever you do, don’t play Escape Dead Island.
Does Dead Island 2 have co-op?
Yes, Dead Island 2 will feature co-op between three players. Open-world games typically are single-player, so with this being more linear, perhaps that allowed Deep Silver to add co-op multiplayer. Unfortunately, the sequel is not planned to have crossplay support. It has not been announced as of the time of writing.
