How to Start Harvesting in New World
To start harvesting in New World, you will need to make a sickle. You can craft a flint sickle right away at any campfire or in any settlement. If you are wondering how to craft a flint sickle, you require:
- 1 Flint
- 1 Green Wood
You can find flint lying around pretty much anywhere. Just look where you are running and you will see what look like rocks, usually with a bit of brown/beige color to them. For green wood, you can simply gather any bushes you see around you. Alternatively, if you have already made a Logging Axe for Logging, then you can chop young trees to obtain the Green Wood.
The screenshot below shows a boulder beside several flint. If you see rocks like this laying around, be sure to pick up a few for your crafts. After you gather your flint and green wood, head over to a campfire or a settlement and craft a flint harvesting sickle.
What Items Can You Get From Harvesting?
You can farm 9 different categories of harvesting sources. Each of these types, you can get main products, and sometimes you can get uncommon or rare products if you have luck rating. We will explore luck rating in a later section.

How to Make Harvesting Faster
If you already have read our other gathering guides, this section will also be very familiar to you. If you have already read this section in our other guides, simply check out the materials list below, as all other steps and explanations are the same.
Territory Standing Reputation
The first option to make harvesting faster, or to make any gathering skill faster, is to choose this option when you rank up in reputation for a region. When you gain Territory Standing in a region, you are allowed to choose 1 of 3 upgrades, which differ each time. Sometimes you will have the option to “Increase Gathering Speed by 3.0%” while in the region. If you chose this, you can begin to stack these to significantly increase your gathering speed while in that region.
Upgrade Your Gathering Tools
Using a flint harvesting sickle will only get you 100% harvesting speed. Sure, 100% sounds like a lot, but this speed is actually pretty slow. If you have some other gathering skills leveled already or some gold to spend at a trading post, you can craft an iron sickle pretty much right away as well. Crafting an iron sickle will increase your harvesting speed to 125%-139% depending on the attributes you get.
For how to craft an iron sickle, head to a work bench inside a settlement and use your engineering skill to craft one. The ingredients you will need are:
- 1 of Any type of leather
- 2 of Any type of timber / refined wood
- 7 of Iron Ingots
Where To Get The Materials
You can obtain the leather from skinning animals. For this, you will need to have a flint skinning knife at the very least. You will kill and skin an animal, then take their hide to the tannery in town to turn it into leather. Alternatively, you can buy 1 leather from the Trading Post in town, they should be very cheap.
The same goes for 2 pieces of timber. You will need to take Green Wood into town and cut it into timber. Alternatively, go to the trading post and purchase 2 timber if you are looking for a quick turnaround and do not have the materials yet.
For iron ingots, you can find Iron Veins and use your mining skills to extract iron ore. Again, you will need a mining pick for this. You can go out and find these veins, mine the ore, then smelt them in town to create iron ingots. Of course, if they are affordable you may choose to buy them off the trading post if you do not already have these materials. Iron veins can be hard to come by unless you are specifically looking for them.
Once you have gathered the required materials, you can craft the iron sickle in New World and your harvesting speed will be significantly faster! Scroll further down our New World Harvesting Guide to see where you can gather each type of material.
How To Obtain Each Tier of Upgraded Harvesting Sickle
The efficiency you gain when crafting your first iron sickle does not stop there. There are 5 tiers of sickles that you can utilize and upgrade to. Each tier will increase your harvesting speed, but higher tier sickles are not fully required to harvest higher level resources.
An important note to the base gathering speed listed below is that these are the base speeds. You can sometimes roll better speeds if you are lucky or use additional items/azoth which we will cover later in the New World Harvesting Guide.
Tier | Pickaxe Name | Image | Base Gather Speed | Craft Requirements |
1 | Flint Harvesting Sickle | 100% | 1x Flint 1x Green Wood
2 | Iron Harvesting Sickle | 125% | 7x Iron Ingot 2x Timber 1x Coarse Leather
3 | Steel Harvesting Sickle | 250% | 8x Steel Ingot 2x Timber 1x Coarse Leather
4 | Starmetal Harvesting Sickle | 400% | 9x Starmetal Ingot 2x Timber 1x Coarse Leather
5 | Orichalcum Harvesting Sickle | 625% | 10x Orichalcum Ingot 2x Timber 1x Coarse Leather |
How To Get Better Items and Rare Drops: New World Harvesting Guide
Food Buffs for Harvesting in New World
Cooking food is one of the ways to improve your chances at rare items while harvesting in New World. The below table shows all food buffs that currently affect harvesting luck. Be sure to level up your cooking skill early to make the most of your harvesting runs!
To understand better how the “luck rating” system works with the overall chances, check out this post, it explains how the luck works.
You can also click any of the ingredients in this table to see where to get it in the world.
Food Name | Image | Increase on Luck Rating | Duration | Level Req. | Ingredients Needed |
Cooked Corn | 1,000 | 20 Mins | 0 | 1x Salt 1x Butter 1x Corn

Charms & Other Perks
When crafting gear, use a Charm to increase the chance of more rare drops from harvesting. These charms are typically acquired from killing mobs or looting chests. Here are the harvesting charms currently in New World:
Using these charms when crafting will give you the Botanist’s Luck or Botanist’s Yield perk to your sickle. The Botanist’s Luck perk does not affect Equipment and Item drops, it only affects the drop rate of the Rare Resources associated with the resource being gathered. These rare resources will be discussed later in the Complete New World Harvesting Guide.
You can get the Botanist’s Luck or Yield perk on your harvesting sickle, your amulet, and also your armor to stack these chances. You can also randomly gain this perk when crafting, if you are lucky!
You can also use a Verbena Leaf or a Verbena Flower to increase Harvesting luck as well.
- Verbena Leaf will increase Harvesting Luck by 2%-5% on an armor slot when crafting
- Verbena Flower will increase Harvesting Luck by 5%-9.5% on an amulet slot when crafting.
Territory Buffs for Harvesting
Depending on controlling factors such as which faction owns the settlements as well as the forts around the map, these buffs can be active to boost your harvesting and other gathering skills.
- Windsward Fortress +5% Yield while gathering.
- Territory Control +10% Yield while gathering.
- Farmer’s Harvest +20% Yield while Harvesting for 3 days. (Settlement Quality of Life Buff).
- Territory Bonus +5-37% Gathering Speed -Depending on how many points. Bonus decays at 86.5% per point.
Intelligence Boost for Harvesting
You will earn different bonuses to harvesting every 50 points you put into intelligence stat in New World. Here are the bonuses for each milestone:
- 50 Points +10% Harvesting Speed
- 100 Points +5% Chance for 1 Azoth after Harvesting a node
- 150 Points -10% Weight reduction for Harvested items
- 200 Points +10% Harvesting Speed
- 250 Points +10% Yield when Harvesting
- 300 Points -10% Reduction in Azoth travel cost
Does Harvesting Level Affect My Luck in New World?
Your harvesting level does affect your luck and your harvesting speed. The higher level you are, the more permanent speed increase and harvesting luck you will have. Here are how the harvesting level in New World affects these:
- Harvesting Speed – Gain 5% Speed until level 20, then 0.3% per level after level 20.
- Harvesting Luck – Your Luck Amount is your Harvesting Level x 10. So if you are level 200 Harvesting, you will permanently have 2,000 harvesting luck points. This equates to a 2% additional chance for rare items.
What Trophies Can I Make to Increase Harvesting Luck?
There are 3 trophies you can make to store in your house, if you own one yet. You can craft these using the Furnishing skill. These trophies significantly increase your Harvesting luck and therefore your chances at finding rare items while Harvesting in New World. Here is a breakdown of all Harvesting trophies in New World.
Trophy | Image | Harvesting Luck Bonus | Ingredients |
Minor Harvesting Gathering Trophy | 500 | 25x Lumber 20x Steel Ingot 1x Maple Stain 25x Air Mote
Basic Harvesting Gathering Trophy | 1,000 | 25x Wyrdwood Planks 20x Starmetal Ingot 1x Oak Stain 1x Journal of Aeternum Flora
Major Harvesting Gathering Trophy | 1,500 | 25x Ironwood Planks 20x Orichalcum Ingot 1x Mahogany Stain 1x Mercurial Token |
How To Hold More Weight In New World
In addition to food buffs, charms, and trophies that you can use while harvesting for extra luck, you may find yourself getting full bags and becoming encumbered. Being encumbered means you will walk instead of run, and you will not be able to recall to an inn or fast travel. This can be quite a set back when trying to make a big haul of Harvesting before you head back to town.
Luckily, there are currently 3 encumbrance potions you can chug to increase your encumbrance amount for a period of time. This may be just enough to farm more and recall with all your goodies. Unfortunately we do not have the data quite yet on exactly how much encumbrance limit is increased per potion, but will update this table when the data is available.
Tier | Potion Name | Image | Encumbrance Limit Increase | Duration | Level Req. |
3 | Strong Encumbrance Potion | +50 Weight Limit | 120 Secs | 20
4 | Powerful Encumbrance Potion | +75 Weight Limit | 150 Secs | 40
5 | Infused Encumbrance Potion | +100 Weight Limit | 180 Secs | 60 |
How To Increase Yield To Get More Materials While Harvesting
Add Perks to Raise Yield from Harvesting
When you are crafting any of your Harvesting Sickles or other items, they all have chances to add a perk. A perk will give your item a special attribute that may increase different aspects of the item.
You can add either a special item to your craft, or you can also add Azoth when crafting to increase the chance of getting a perk. Some of these perks increase the amount of items, or the yield, you can get from harvesting. To increase the yield and get more out of harvesting, you will want the “Harvesting Yield” Perk on your sickle in New World which makes it yield 10% more resources.
You can also add perks to armor and amulets, as discussed in a following section. Utilizing as many of these as you can in your gear set will maximize yield.
Consume Proficiency Potions to Raise Yield of all Gathering Skills Temporarily
Another way to raise yield temporarily while on a harvesting run is to craft and consume Proficiency Booster potions. Some people think since this is a potion it must be crafted using the Arcana skill, but it is actually crafted using the Engineering skill, using a Workshop.
Here are all the current proficiency potions available in New World:
Tier | Potion Name | Image | Increase in Yield | Duration | Level Req. | Ingredients |
2 | Weak Proficiency Booster | 5% | 10 Mins | 5 | 1x Water 1x Soul Mote 1x Air Mote
3 | Common Proficiency Booster | 7% | 15 Mins | 20 | 1x Water 1x Soul Wisp 1x Air Wisp
4 | Strong Proficiency Booster | 10% | 20 Mins | 40 | 1x Water 1x Soul Essence 1x Air Essence
5 | Powerful Proficiency Booster | 15% | 30 Mins | 60 | 1x Soul Quintessence 1x Air Quintessence |

New World Harvesting Guide: Where to Find Harvesting Materials
When you first start harvesting in New World, you will be able to gather from five types of plants. Each of these harvestable plants give you different types of materials. All of them can be found right here in our New World Harvesting Guide. Be sure to also check out the interactive New World map that we’ve utilized here to show you the best places to go! You can use this map to do your own research as well to look for other areas if you do not like our suggested routes.
Farm Plants
Farm plants can be harvested with 0 harvesting skill, all you need is a sickle. These come in many forms, much of what you are likely already familiar with in the real world. These are a great source of cooking ingredients and include:
Barley, Berry, Blueberry, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Corn, Cranberries, Honey, Melons, Nuts, Potatoes, Squash, Strawberries, and Wheat.
Click on any of the items above to see their specific farming routes. We will not put all of them here as it will make this guide unnecessarily larger as we already have articles on these.

Where To Find Hemp & Fibers in New World
Hemp in New World can actually come in a few colors. The picture above shows you what it looks like in some settings, with a purple shade. In other settings, it can appear in more of a beige or brown color (below).
Hemp is gatherable at 0 harvesting skill, and is trackable at 25 skill. If you are wondering where to get fibers for your town project board quests, in New World, fibers come from Hemp. When you harvest a hemp plant in New World, it will give you fibers. These fibers can be used at a Loom to create linen and cloth for crafting clothes.
Hemp fibers can be found in many places across New World, but by far the most dense area is right on the border of Windsward and Monarch’s Bluffs. There also happens to be a Spirit Shrine for fast travel right at this spot. This may make it a popular area, but there are many Hemp spawns surrounding it. When this spot is too busy, head a bit farther southeast to find a less populated area for hemp:
Where To Find Herbs & Hyssop in New World
You can also gather herbs throughout the map to obtain Hyssop. Herbs are often found in the same areas as Hemp. This is a main ingredient in early health potions using the Arcana profession. Herbs appear looking like lavender, with blue/purplish hue:
When you harvest herbs you will obtain Hyssop and sometimes an additional item as well. In the early game, herbs are quite easy to come by. You can find a dense population just southeast of Windsward Town by the beaches. You can also head to the fast travel area we mentioned in the Hemp section and gather both at the same time. Here are a few spots they are most abundant in for the early game:
If you are looking to pick up herbs and you are a higher level, later in the game, there is another area that has even more herbs. In Ebonscale Reach in the northeast corner of the zone, there is an immense abundance of herbs close to a fast travel shrine:
Where To Find Silkweed (Silk Fibers) in New World
Silkweed can be harvested in New World at harvesting skill 100. Silkweed is trackable at 125. This resource looks extremely similar to Hemp, but has a more blue color to it:
When you harvest Silkweed, you can obtain Fibers and Silk Fibers, which in turn can be used at the Loom in town to make clothing. Some Silkweed can appear more purple instead of blue, which make it look even closer to the color of Hemp.
Silkweed is much harder to come by compared to Hemp and Herbs, as it is spread out amongst many zones with only a scarce amount of spawns in each. If you are looking to gather this at a lower level where you are still traversing the lower 6 regions of the map, try either Southern Cutlass Keys or Eastern Monarch’s Bluffs:
Alternatively, if your character is already in the higher level regions, Brightwood has an abundant source of Silkweed. The region border between Restless Shore and Mourningdale also has many Silkweed spawns.
Where To Find Wireweave (Wirefiber) in New World
Wireweave, or Wirefiber, can be harvested in New World at harvesting skill 175. It is trackable at harvesting skill 200. This resource also looks extremely similar to Hemp, but has an intense red color to it:
When you harvest this plant you will get Wire Fibers. This is generally a high level gatherable, so it is very scarce in the lower regions of the map. If you are looking to get your hands on some in the lower level regions, the best place is in Windsward. There are a few spawns just south of Fort Windsward, and a few more just east or west of it:
Alternatively, if you can make your way over to Reekwater, there is a few spawns in the southwestern area of the region:
For higher level places, by far the best place to find Wireweave for Wirefibers is in the northern region of Edengrove:
Where To Find Fungi in New World
