Bernhard im Schatten 1 is my first gift (Of many gifts yet to come) to the Muv-Luv Fandom. This prequel novel is the first one of two novels, detailing a time long past before the events of Muv-Luv Schwarzesmarken, however, it can still be enjoyed by readers as it’s own separate experience, without prior knowledge of the main work, or other entries in the Muv-Luv world.
Included in this article, is the download link for the fan translation of the first novel, entirely done by me, including editing and proof reading. I have also enjoyed including an extensive index of Translator notes to cover all the political and cultural references included in the novel, without compromising the original quality of the writing, all German/French/Russian or Japanese terminology is completely preserved in it’s original language.
Furthermore, The art pages have been transcribed and translated, in addition to the epilogue and afterword sections. I have put my heart and soul into it, to ensure a quality fitting for the readers. The translations for the novels: Bernhard im Schatten 2, Muv-Luv Schwarzesmarken Requiem Volume 1 and 2 are also in the works.
“Achieve your mission with all your might.
Despair not until your last breath.
Make your death count!”

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is a Military Guidance book that has been referenced many times across the series. Isumi Michiru in Muv-Luv Alternative, Koubuin Yuuhi in Muv-Luv Teito Myou, and Jürgen Bernhard in Bernhard im Schatten 1 have all made call backs to it, so it’s advised to check it out in order to get more enjoyment out of the series.
