It’s that time again, time to get sucked back into the post apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead.
Season 3 Episode 1 – Seed
First thing you should know, and will notice, is that within the first 15 seconds (after the mandatory catch-up sequence) is that there is more action. A lot more action. Whether it’s just to get the series off to a kicking start, we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s not a bad thing either. With the survivors killing more Walkers than I can count on two hands within the first five minutes, without saying a word to each other, you get the immediate impression that times are a lot, lot harder. Especially when you see the once fresh faced Carl take out a Walker without blinking and then proceed to open a can of dog food with the intent of eating it.
The survivors all look a bit rough, giving an indication of the amount of time that has passed since the season 2 finale, which saw them camped out in the open, not far from a huge prison.
Some may already know what the story is pointing to if they have read The Walking Dead graphic novels (or comics, either way they are books with pictures), but this is written by someone who has never read any of them, and in a way I think it gives me a nice fresh perspective as I have no conflicts with the previous stories.
Anyway, the important thing here is the story, which is what keeps us flocking back to it week after week.
I won’t give anything away, it would be an injustice to the series for me to tell it out in written form, but just know that the story is as strong as ever and keeps you interested and lets you invest in the characters. Well written and superbly acted, with a higher level of gore and even a touch of language not seen before in the series, it’s worth watching, recording and watching again.
Chris’s verdict;
Brilliant- 9/10
