Putin’s going back to Pro Evo…
It seems there’s nothing in the world right now that isn’t somehow connected to the war in Ukraine. Even video games are being drawn into the political battlefield, with EA announcing that it will be removing the Russian national team and all Russian club sides from its FIFA games, including FIFA 22.
In a statement posted on Twitter earlier today, the publisher announced that it was acting in line with its partners at FIFA and UEFA – the football governing bodies in Europe, both of which have pulled Russia from competitions – and that more updates will come in the future and fans will be informed at every step. Here’s the full statement from EA Sports:
EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukranian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and en end to the invasion of Ukraine.
In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated process to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products, including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We’re also actively evaluating changes to other areas of our games.
We will keep our communities up to date on any action taken, and thanks players for their patience as we work through these updates.

It might seem like a small gesture, but these small moves by major companies are starting to add up. Google and Apple have both limited their mapping applications, while Nike, Vodafone, and other brands have stopped sales of their products in Russia.
If you start getting Russian rage messages in Pro Evo – sorry, er, eFootball… – you’ll know why.
