If you like to try before you buy, you’re not going to be best pleased with this latest bit of news concerning Lara Croft and her latest outing in the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, simply titled, Tomb Raider.
Crystal Dynamics global brand director Karl Stewart let the fans know on Twitter that there is no plans to release a gameplay demo before the game hits shelves later this year.
Karl Stewarts tweet to eager fans read:
“For all those @tombraider fans asking. There are no plans to release a demo of the game pre-launch. We don’t want to spoil the story……..”
Just so it’s known, he actually did use that many full stops.
It’s a shame there’s no demo being made available, but these days it’s rare to get a demo anyway. Still, the reason given that they don’t want to spoil the story is a bit cheap, surely it can’t have been that hard to just put out a demo with a small section of the game to give players a feel for what to expect, who knows, it may have actually helped the game.
Personally, I hate buying into a game blind, not knowing what it’s going to be like. You can watch as many gameplay demonstrations and trailers as you like, but you never really get a feel for the game unless you spend a bit of time with it yourself, and in these hard economic times, more and more of us are finding it hard to justify buying into a new game at £45/$60 without a clue as to whether it will be a dud or not.
If your on the fence, I’d say wait for the reviews to come out, ours will be ready come release day, or try and get a bit of play time on a friends copy. It’s better than sinking a lot of money into a product you may later regret, trust me, I’ve been there, and I’m looking at you 007 Legends…
Tomb Raider releases on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on March 5th.
