Rockstar broke the hearts of millions worldwide when they announced that GTA V would be pushed back all the way to September 17th, making its Spring release nothing more than a tease.
Rockstar gave no real explanation on why the game was pushed back, instead opting to give a vague and mysterious statement.
But what does it really mean?
Now from this point on everything I say is guesswork, but I find myself pretty good at making educated guesses, and to be fair, I’m rarely wrong.
The PS4 is supposedly going to be shown off at a special Playstation meeting on February 20th, the trailer for the announcement rattled the cages of the gaming world and no doubt struck a nerve with its competitors and allies.
Then, a couple of days later, Rockstar put out that GTA V won’t see the light of day until much later in the year instead of the original Spring release date.
Personally, I think the two are connected. Hear me out. With the PS4 being shown off later this month, it’s not hard to imagine that the console will release later on this year, and by looking at GTA V‘s new release date, it’s looking like it will hit shelves hard in September.
Rockstar are a big company that need to make money, by putting out GTA V a few months later, they can guarantee sales across the PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. It’d be short-sighted of them not to release it on a new console and leave it to the soon-to-be last-gen.
The lack of games announced for the back-end of 2013 also points to the arrival of the next-generation of home consoles, and with Rockstar being the first to announce a big new game so later in the year, they are basically shouting “We know what’s coming!”
Of course, as I said before, this is all guesswork, but if you think about it, it all falls into place quite nicely. The extra time that Rockstar has now they’ve delayed GTA V should be enough time to port the game over to the Playstation 4, maybe even the Next Xbox.
