Terrible Toybox, Devolver Digital, and Lucasfilm Games have announced that Ron Gilbert will be bringing the long-awaited Return to Monkey Island to players later this year.
Return to Monkey Island is the follow-up to the classic Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, a series of point-and-click games that were revered back in the 90s. Sadly, subsequent efforts to revitalise the series fell flat, but with Ron Gilbert, the original director of the series, at the helm.
Unfortunately, the announcement is very barebones. Skeletal, one could say. The press release is a meagre one sentence telling us what I’ve just told you, and a short teaser trailer and a link to the official website. And that’s it. There are no other details, such as release date or platforms, or whether the original characters and their actors will be returning. Expect more in the run-up to the game’s release.
