While doing some research for my new articles I have came across an unusual pattern that kept repeating constantly. I was researching the lores in League of Legends as I am writing a ranked lists about them, when I started digging out the Yordle lores. Everything was fine at the first couple of lores, but when I started digging a little bit deeper I have found the repeating pattern in every single Yordle lore in League of Legends.
Introduction
The thing that I have discovered shook me, as I am not sure if Riot has planned this, or is it just a mere coincidence. Although I will never be convinced that something that appears so many times can be coincidence.
While reading the Yordle lores I have discovered that in every single one of them, there are part of the lore and the Yordles personalities that resemble some patterns of Mental disorders. So I went to check those out and I have found that the Yordles can actually be a secret message that Riot has had in mind every since the game was released.
The patterns kept appearing, and once I got going with the reading they were becoming more clear then ever.
I think that Riot has done this to raise awareness to Mental disorders that are one of the biggest problems in the world now, especially with young people.
Hear me out. Every Yordle is depicted as a small, cute creature that in its size and look can be connected with the look of a small child or genuinely young person, especially when you start to understand the different personalities that they have.
I think that Riot has tried to portray the Image of Yordles, and show the world that even the cutest, youngest and seemingly happy people can suffer from Mental disorders, and that we never know what is hiding behind a person’s smile.
Disclaimer: This article is here to raise awareness to people suffering from Mental disorders, and not insult or demine them in any way whatsoever.
To show you what I am talking about I created a list with every Yordle and the suspect Mental disorder that I think it suffers.
Corki
- Insanity
- PTSD
- Pyromania
In the Corki’s lore it is clearly said that he loved the smell of gunpowder in the air and that he was miserable once they forced him into retirement. In the lore it self the word ‘’madness’’ was used.
‘’Corki is the most renowned of the Screaming Yipsnakes for remaining cool under fire and exhibiting bravery to the point of madness.’’
‘’When open hostilities ceased, Corki was forced into a retirement, which he felt ”cut the engines and clipped the wings.’’ He tried to make do with stunt flying and canyon running, but it was never the same without the refreshing smell of gunpowder streaking through the air around him.’’
Fizz
- Acute Stress Disorder
- Hypersomnolence
- Narcolepsy
- PTSD
- Separation Anxiety Disorder
It’s clear as day in Fizz’s lore that he was seriously hurt by the loss of his people once the oceans started rising and Gigalodons ate many of people in his city. It’s also mentioned that he slept for ages and that he really couldn’t ever cope with the loss so he tried to compensate with mischiefs once he was awoken.
‘’Then, one dark day, the gigalodons came.
These huge dragon-sharks stunned their prey with fell shrieking, and the avenues of the great city were soon clouded red. Thousands died in a matter of hours, the immense bulk of their killers crushing towers and temples in a monstrous feeding frenzy. Scenting blood in the water, Fizz raced back, determined to join the fight and save the city.
He was too late. There was nothing left of the city to save. When the debris finally settled, not a single living creature remained, nor any stone upon another, and the ravenous shoal had moved on. Alone in the cold depths, Fizz sank into mournful despair. As his yordle magic began to fade, he let himself be carried by the currents, drifting in a catatonic torpor, dreaming away the millennia…’’
‘’Even so, Fizz does not take kindly to the greedy or selfish, and more than one haughty sea captain hoping to make a quick pile of silver has found that her mysterious guide has led her crew not to safety, but to shipwreck.’’
Gnar
- Amnesia
- Bipolar Disorder
- Mania
- Narcolepsy
- Split personality disorder
I mean I don’t even have to talk about this one, you will understand everything from the quotes below. There are clear signs of Mania, Amnesia and Narcolepsy.
‘’And this made him angry. In that moment, Gnar truly raged.
All he could see was the monster. In a flash, he was in the air, leaping toward it. In one paw, he grasped a snowball… or so he thought. In fact, it was a boulder plucked from the mountainside, for Gnar had grown as large as the big white yordles. He would send this monster back where it came from, by walloping its face!
But the blow never landed. Gnar felt a chill colder than any winter, one that seemed to turn the air itself into ice—truly, this elemental magic froze him in place, biting through his shaggy fur. Everything, including the monster, became quiet. The yordle’s strength and anger melted away. A deep tiredness crept into his limbs, and he fell softly asleep.
Gnar napped for a long time. When he finally awoke, he shook the frost from his shoulders, breathing heavily. Everyone else was gone. With no monsters to fight and no friends to protect, he felt very small and alone again.’’
‘’Even now, Gnar has no grasp of what took place that fateful day, nor how he escaped. He simply marvels at the world before him, with so many oddities to collect and places to explore.’’
Heimerdinger
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Compulsions
- Obsession
- Pyromania
Heimer’s lore is quite short but it is sufficient to understand what I am talking about. He is a scientist, that creates inventions, but primarily weapons. It says that he was immersed in his work to the point of neurotic obsession, so clearly he had to act on it with compulsions. To me it’s clear sign of Autism since his mind is enhanced in one way but kinda has taken a tool on other aspects, since he is so obsessed with his work. He also creates weapons, not exclusively but enough to attribute him with pyromania as well.
‘’A brilliant yet eccentric yordle scientist, Professor Cecil B. Heimerdinger is lauded as one of the most innovative minds and esteemed inventors Piltover has ever seen. Relentless in his work to the point of neurotic obsession, he is fascinated by mysteries that have confounded his contemporaries for decades, and thrives on answering the universe’s most impenetrable questions. Though his theories often appear opaque and esoteric, Heimerdinger believes knowledge should be shared, and is devoted to teaching all who desire it.’’
Kenen
- Separation Anxiety Disorder
Kenen’s lore is shrouded with a veil of mystery, since he is a Ninja, after all and good with covering up his tracks. But two sentences from his lore were enough for me.
‘’Kennen urged the Fist of Shadow, Mayym, to look to her daughter Akali, whom he’d trained since childhood, and see her as a successor.
But even he couldn’t find the words to stop Akali from eventually leaving the Kinkou, frustrated at the order’s failure to act against Ionia’s enemies.’’
Kled
- Mania
- PTSD
Kled is a war veteran that has been known to go mad while in the battle, and when all things are considered it’s clear that he has stayed that way even after the war has ended.
‘’They rushed after Kled as he tore into the enemy.
What followed was one of the bloodiest melees ever fought on the northern steppes. The initial momentum of the counterattack was crushed beneath a hail of barbarian arrows from higher ground, but Kled fought on even after he was thrown from his saddle and his drakalops fled. He always seemed to be at the heart of the battle, chopping down foes, kicking out teeth, and biting faces. The bodies piled up around him, and his clothes were soaked with blood. He screamed louder challenges and cruder insults. Clearly, this great warrior was willing to die before ever backing down.’’
‘’The body of General Zaavan—and his fine armor—was never found.’’
Lulu
- Delusions
- Hallucinations
- Schizophrenia
From my point of view, Lulu’s lore is somewhat connected or at least based upon Alice in The Woderland. It is clearly said that she followed a fairy to the woods and once she came back to reality it all seemed like a dream. Plus, turning children into mushrooms, yeah…
‘’Before she could react, the faerie grabbed her walking stick and took off. Giggling, Lulu gave chase.
The spirit led her far into the forest. They went over boulders, under logs, and around ancient, overgrown stone circles. The faerie darted into a cave hidden behind a waterfall, and Lulu went after it. It flittered ahead, always just out of reach.
Down and down and down they went. Lulu tumbled and scrambled around twisted roots and glowing mushrooms, and at some point they crossed over into the spirit realm without her realizing it. Their surroundings became progressively stranger and more disorienting; up became down, forward became backward, big became small.
Finally, after what seemed forever, Lulu caught up with the faerie, whose name, she discovered, was Pix.
With a click of his tiny fingers, Pix turned her humble walking stick into a spiraling staff, and tossed it back to her. It sprouted leaves and flowers, making Lulu gasp in delight. So began their forever-friendship, built of mischief, fun, and love of nature.’’
‘’ Her life became one of endless creation and play, and she soon forgot anything else existed.
When finally she remembered, it was like waking from a dream.
She found herself back in the material realm, not knowing if a single day had passed, or a thousand years.’’
‘’In Demacia, she freed a group of children from their boring history lessons, and led them off into a nearby meadow. Her game resulted in them being turned into toadstools for a full turn of the moon, while their desperate parents and the local militia searched for them in vain. It wasn’t quite what Lulu had intended, but fun nonetheless. When the children finally returned home and told everyone what had happened, no one believed them.’’
Poppy
- Delusions
- Separation Anxiety Disorder
Poppy stalked the army, she ‘’befriended’’ and unit leader (read fell in love), and on his deathbed he gave her his weapon which she carries all the time with her seeking for ‘’true hero of Demacia’’ even though its clear as day for everyone else that she is the afformentioned hero. It’s her way to cope with the tragic loss and honour the memory of her loved Orlon.
‘’Orlon passed the hammer to Poppy on his deathbed, and with it, his hope of an enduring kingdom. It was only then that Orlon told her the story of his weapon’s creation, and how it was never truly intended for his hands. He explained to Poppy that the hammer was meant to go to the Hero of Demacia–the only one who could keep Demacia whole. As her friend drew his last breath, Poppy swore to him that she would find this hero and place the weapon in his hands.
But what Poppy possesses in resolve, she lacks in ego, as it never even occurred to her that she might be the hero Orlon described.’’
Rumble
- Acute Stress Disorder
- PTSD
- Pyromania
- Social Anxiety disorder
I think you can see the pattern now. The Yordle lores are among the worst ones in the game. Rumble’s lore is no exception. It’s supposed to be a heart warming story about the bullied little Yordle that gets back at his bullies. But from what I can see it’s just a story about the person that was abused and bullied as a youngster, and later in life he developed a psychological disorder and just went on a rampage killing everyone in his path with some device that he has made from scraps. It really can be connected to mass shootings, since the back story to those poor souls are really similar to this one.
‘’Even amongst yordles, Rumble was always the runt of the litter. As such, he was used to being bullied. In order to survive, he had to be scrappier and more resourceful than his peers. He developed a quick temper and a reputation for getting even, no matter who crossed him. This made him something of a loner, but he didn’t mind.’’
‘’The next morning, Rumble left Bandle City without a word, and wasn’t seen again for months. When he returned, he was at the helm of a clanking, mechanized monstrosity. He marched it to the center of town amidst dumbfounded onlookers and there announced that he would show the world what yordle-tech was really capable of achieving.’’
Teemo
- Bipolar Disorder
- Split personality disorder
Teemo is portrayed as a calm Yordle until he is in battle that he becomes totally different person only focused on killing. From my point of view it’s clear that Teemo has Split personality disorder.
‘’Despite his genuinely warm personality, something switches off inside Teemo’s mind during combat so that the lives he must end while on patrol do not burden him. Even as a young recruit, the drill instructors and other trainees found it a little disconcerting that, while Teemo was normally charming and kind, he turned deadly serious and highly efficient the minute combat exercises began.’’
Tristana
- Separation Anxiety Disorder
Not too much to tell about our girl Tristy in here except that she never quite recovered from the tragedy that she has witnessed.
‘’Tristana, dozing in the dappled sunshine, was shaken awake as the trees around her began to burn and topple. A warband of armored marauders rampaged through the woodland with fire and axes, led by a sorcerer wreathed in dark energy.
Tristana hid in horror. The sorcerer focused his power upon the portal at the heart of the bandlewood, speaking one final utterance. Her ears still ringing with pain, Tristana watched the gateway collapse, never to be opened again. The ripples of that destruction were felt in Bandle City itself, causing great despair among the yordles.
Tristana had never experienced anything like the pain of this loss, or the guilt she felt for not acting. Never again would she allow such a terrible thing to happen. In that moment, she dedicated herself to become the guardian of all bandlewoods, and her fellow yordles.’’
Veigar
- Delusions
- Stockholm Syndrome
Veigar was kidnapped by Mordekaiser that shaped his mind in the ways that he truly started believing that he was evil and tried to become like his former captor that he started to admire. Clear signs of Delusions and Stockholm syndrome.
‘’When the revenant warlord’s own followers conspired against him, the nightmare of his reign was ended, but by this point Veigar was nigh unrecognizable. His eyes blazed. Even his voice had become a sneer of malice. Fleeing from his ensorcelled cage, the wretched creature had no interest in the wars of succession that inevitably followed. Deep down, he most likely yearned to regain the sense of safety and freedom that all living things crave.
And yet, he chose not to turn away from evil, but to embrace it. Clad in armor befitting a sinister warlock, he vowed to seize respect in the only way he could remember—through ruthless villainy, inspiring fear in all who encountered him. He would call down the fury of the stars themselves upon his foes, and trap them in the timeless infinities between moments.
And yet… Veigar could not quite find the same success as his former captor.’’
Vex
- Delusions
- Depression
- Hallucinations
- Schizophrenia
- Social Anxiety Disorder
Oh boy, where to start. It’s clear as day that Vex represents a depressed person. The Schizophrenia, Delusions and Hallucinations also become visible when she befriends her own shadow while in Shadow Isles. The Shadow Isles represent the world of the dead, we know that by now, and the fact that she returned from it and stayed depressed while wishing to return in the Shadow Isles tells me that Vex is a young person who tried to kill her self but she was unsuccessful, and that in those moments where she was between the world of the living and the dead she truly found her peace.
‘’In the black heart of the Shadow Isles, a lone yordle trudges through the spectral fog, content in its murky misery. With an endless supply of malaise and a powerful shadow in tow, Vex shields herself from the pep and happiness of the outside world, and all of the irksome “normies” who occupy it.
Growing up in Bandle City, Vex never felt she belonged. The whimsy and color of the yordle realm was cloying to her. Despite the best efforts of her parents, she never seemed to find her “yordle spirit” or any like-minded friends, and chose to spend most of her time sulking in her room.
There, she found an unlikely soulmate in her own shadow. It was black (her favorite color), and it didn’t talk—the perfect companion for the sullen youth. She learned to entertain herself with the shadow, performing gloomy pantomimes for her own amusement.
Alas, it was just a shadow, incapable of shielding Vex from the loathsome cheerfulness that surrounded her. Surely something more lay in store. Something darker. Something sad. Something just like her.
That something arrived in the form of a Harrowing, thick clouds of Black Mist that billowed through Bandle City, stirring its residents to panic. While most yordles fought valiantly to beat back the Mist, Vex was intrigued by the foul miasma and began to follow it to its source.
When she arrived in the Shadow Isles, Vex couldn’t believe her eyes. Vast tracts of land and sea, devoid of all life and color, stretched out before her. Here, she could finally sulk, unbothered by the laughter and merriment of others.
As the days passed, Vex realized the Black Mist was having a strange effect on her. Her shadow had taken on a new ghostly persona—much more lively and expressive than its host—and her benign yordle magic had transformed into something far more sinister. Vex could now spread her misery far and wide.
“Who made this wonderfully awful place?” she wondered.’’
‘’Alone once more, she watched in disappointment as the world returned to the bright, colorful place she had always hated. Finding a lasting melancholy was going to be tougher than she’d thought.
She knew one last place she could go—a surefire way to achieve the misery she craved. She paid a visit to her parents in Bandle City, eager to show them who she had become and bask in their disapproval.
The young yordle watched as her parents turned dumbstruck, still as tree stumps. Their expressions changed from shock, to denial, to reluctant acceptance.
“Honey. We don’t understand… this,” said her mother, motioning with her finger at Vex’s entire being.
“But we love you unconditionally,” said her father. “And if you’re happy, we’re happy for you.”
Rolling her eyes, Vex released a loud, exasperated sigh. “You guys are the worst,” she moaned.
She trudged out of her parents’ living room, anxious to return to the Shadow Isles where she could sulk undisturbed.’’
Ziggs
- Insanity
- Pyromania
I mean, it’s kind of clear by the looks of it but here it is anyway. He blew a hole into Academy’s wall, he wiped the prison from the face of the Earth…. Umm Runterra just so he could get the recognition that he thought he deserves, from the Academy. I mean he got it, but still?
‘’His characteristic disregard for safety brought the presentation to an early conclusion, however, when the hextech engine Ziggs was demonstrating overheated and exploded, blowing a huge hole in the wall of the Academy.‘’
‘’With his new creations ready for their first trial, Ziggs traveled to Zaun and sneaked into the prison compound. He launched a gigantic bomb at the prison and watched with glee as the explosion tore through the reinforced wall. Once the smoke had cleared, Ziggs scuttled into the facility, sending guards running with a hail of bombs. He rushed to the cell, blew the door off its hinges, and led the captive yordles to freedom. Upon returning to the Academy, the humbled professors recognized Ziggs with an honorary title – Dean of Demolitions. Vindicated at last, Ziggs accepted the proposal, eager to bring his ever-expanding range of hexplosives to greater Valoran.’’
Conclusion
Please note that this is just my theory, and it’s is important to know the devastating effects that mental disorders have on people, both young and old.
If you ever feel that something isn’t right and that you can’t find pleasure or you simply don’t fit in, go and seek help, you will find it!
