We’ve all been expecting it, an announcement of some sort to confirm what all Batman fans have been hoping for: another Batman game.
Warner Bros. haven’t exactly announced it to the masses as such, but instead the confirmation comes in the form of a casual mention of the next game in an earnings call.
“We expect [digital home video revenue] to grow close to 20% in 2013. And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise,” said Chief Financial Officer John K.Martin during the earnings call.
Rumours have been circulating for a while as to what the next Batman game may be, and a number of leaks and reports suggest it will take place before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, a prequel set in the “Silver Age” of the Batman comics mythology. It’s also been suggested that the next Batman game will feature some recognisable faces in the form of other DC super heroes, The Flash, Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman to name a few.
After Batman: Arkham City‘s success, it seems that Warner Bros. is ready to release Batman games at regular intervals, most likely going in the direction of other big name titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty in releasing them on an annual basis. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, so long as the games progress and don’t become stagnant like the aforementioned titles.
Also worth a mention, there has been a lot of rumours in bringing the franchise to the Playstation Vita, so it’s perfectly possible that the next game will be a PS Vita port of one of the earlier games, and not a new title in the series. Something to think about…
