The Fire Emblem series is commonly known as a single-player experience as you invest heavily in the cast of characters, slay great beasts and topple grand forces from winning the war. However, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes does change the formula and a multiplayer experience is indeed available in the game. Here’s what it is and how to start the Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes multiplayer mode.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes multiplayer: how to play coop
The Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes multiplayer option supports two-player splitscreen co-op while you’re in missions. On the mission screen, just before you get into the action, you’ll see on the top right a red tab. It reads “P2 Can Join!” Press the – button and then the controller screen will pop up from the Nintendo Switch UI. You can use the two Joycons, a single Joycon each vertically, or a Pro Controller. Third party controllers will also work.
To correspond your controller set up with the game, press the L and R buttons simultaneously to register it to the Nintendo Switch. Have the second person do this as well. You’ll then be ready to strike your foes down together. Press the A button or the position of where it would be to confirm your controller set up.
Look again to the top right, and you’ll see a confirmation that “P2 has joined.” Once you’ve booted up the game, you might be surprised to find out that the game runs rather well, despite two players hacking and slashing their way through many soldiers on the battlefield.
Unfortunately, there is no way to switch the position of the two gameplay screens. You’ll be stuck with a vertical screen format for both players. However, you can boost the size of the Orders Screen under Settings and then Game Settings on the menu. You can zoom it in to get a better idea of your objectives.
While Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes doesn’t stick to the series’ origins as a single player title, working together on the battlefield feels like a great fit.
Can you play Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes multiplayer online?
Unfortunately, you are unable to play the Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes multiplayer online. It is strictly couch co-op.
While it’s a shame you can’t fight guards and imperial forces in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, another recently released Switch game supports it wholeheartedly: Monster Hunter Rise and its new expansion Sunbreak. You may want to grind to get the Prized Pelt or try to find a Supple Piel with your friends from around the world.
You can also play the online co-op titles Diablo 2 Resurrected or Stardew Valley if you want to get your fix of the RPG genre with your friends on the internet.
