BioShock Vita. The game that most PlayStation Vita owners have been hoping for ever since Ken Levine of Irrational Game took to the stage at E3 2011 and promised that the franchise would be coming to the latest portable console.
Unfortunately, it’s still looking pretty dead at this point, as Mr Levine told IGN that the game is yet to even enter development at this time.
When asked by IGN on the current state of BioShock Vita, Mr Levine said:
“I’ve got my fingers crossed that that’s going to happen because it’s something I want to do, but until somebody starts signing the cheques, there’s nothing I can do.”
He went on with:
“At the end of the day, I work for Take-Two and they need to be able to fund that development, and they need to make sure they have a deal in place that makes sense for them and makes sense for Sony.”
This is slightly worrying. You have to see it from a business perspective, and at the end of the day there just aren’t enough PlayStation Vita’s in players hands to justify the big bucks needed to develop a triple A title at this time. It’s not only a worry that Take-Two are holding back on BioShock Vita, but this may also be the case for any plans of bringing Grand Theft Auto to the handheld.
There’s still hope yet though, as Sony has promised that they will be going on an all out offensive this year with the PlayStation Vita, especially with the arrival of the PlayStation 4 this Winter. Maybe we’ll see some of Sony’s plans this summer during E3? Maybe we won’t. Only time will tell, and time is a cruel little devil.
