Hit blocky-adventure game Minecraft will be breaking the confines of digital distribution sooner rather than later.
Microsoft recently announced that Minecraft will be getting a retail edition later on this year in addition to being available to download on the Xbox 360.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is set to release on April 30th for the princely sum of $20, no word on a UK or European release at this time, but it’s not hard to imagine it getting a release over here as well as in the States.
Minecraft started out as an independent game for the PC, now it’s a multi-million dollar property with millions around the world getting stuck in, it’s even found its way to the classroom as a teaching aid!

At the moment Minecraft is a console exclusive for the Xbox 360, though its been suggested by one of the developers at Mojang that the game may find a new home on PlayStation devices once the deal with Microsoft has run it’s course. So don’t be surprised to see an eventual release for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and maybe even the PlayStation 4.
