PlayStation developers will soon be able to develop games using the “optimised for PlayStation” Unity development tools, as Sony and Unity recently announced a strategic partnership.
The “Unity for PlayStation” tools will take advantage of the individual features of each PlayStation platform, whether it be PlayStation 3, PS Vita, PlayStation 4 or even PS Mobile.
The tools will come ready and optimized with the ease of porting games between platforms. Unity is a common tools used for iOS and Android games, so maybe we’ll see some upgraded ports of popular smart phone games. There’s even been rumours of Gameloft considering bringing some of their games across to the PS Vita, something that could only be a plus, if done right that is.
The full toolset will be made available sometime later this year, most likely around August/September time.
