We may have Battlefield 4‘s official release date thanks to some clumsy blogging by Microsoft staff over on Xbox.com.
We’ve had the gameplay video, we’ve had a fair amount of pre-release hype, and now we might just have the release date for the upcoming military shooter.
Part of the official blog post reads:
“Only in Battlefield can players go through a building instead of around it, eject from a jet and take out the enemy mid-free fall, or flip a tank. DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts, announced that Battlefield 4 will arrive on the Xbox 360 on October 29, 2013.”
What do we make of this? It could well be the genuine date and the author wasn’t aware that the release date wasn’t public knowledge, or they have just picked the date that seems most likely and gone with it.
It’s possible that Battlefield 4 will release in October, just as Battlefield 3 did. By releasing in October EA can get a foothold over Activision and their next Call of Duty which is rumoured to be Call of Duty: Ghosts. Incidentally, October 29th is the release date set for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
At this point, we’re taking it with a pinch of salt until there’s official confirmation from either DICE or publisher EA, I recommend you do the same.
Battlefield 4 is set to release sometime later this year and is confirmed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, though it’s safe to assume we’ll see a release on the PlayStation 4 and next-Xbox. Unfortunately Wii U owners are being left in the cold again and will be missing out on yet another big third-party title.
