Microsoft isn’t being given any slack this week, they’ve lost out on Batman: Arkham Knight for the Xbox One over in Japan, with the title being a PS4 exclusive for the foreseeable future, and now their sales numbers are out in the wild, showing just how poorly the Xbox One is performing in Japan.
Microsoft did manage to sell some Xbox One’s, just not as many as they hoped for. 23,562 is the total number for the Xbox One’s first week sales. It’s not a pretty sight and the Redmond based manufacturer won’t be best pleased about those numbers.
Microsoft knew going in that Japan would be a tough market to break into with a new console, but they tried never the less so we have to give credit where it’s due.
Japanese gamers tend to be quite conservative about what they buy, with most sticking to brands that they know, which in this case would be the local companies Sony and Nintendo who continue to dominate the Japanese gaming market.
It’s still early days yet, so there is hope that Microsoft can compete at a high level within Japan. Competition is always a good thing and encourages innovation, something the games industry is in dire need of.
