Ubisoft recently revealed that Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be running in 900p on the PS4 and Xbox One in an effort to keep players and critics from comparing the two versions.
It’s not had quite the reaction that they hoped for, not at all. Players, mainly of the Sony variety, have taken to Twitter, Facebook to vent their fury at the firms decision to restrain the capabilities of the PS4.
This is just speculation at this point, but some people are calling foul on Ubisoft, claiming that Microsoft has forced the publisher to keep the PS4 and Xbox One versions the same.
It’s not that unlikely either. Microsoft had a clause in place with the Xbox 360 that required publishers to release their games on-par with the PS3 version, but never at a lower standard for their own console. This was seen as heavy-handed by many and didn’t put Microsoft in the best of lights.
Now I’m not saying that is what is happening here, but if more third-party games are released with console parity, then there’s certainly something fishy going on.
For the time being, we’ll just have to take Ubisoft on their word, but let’s hope this doesn’t become a regular thing amongst all the big third-party teams.
What do you think? Do you reckon Microsoft is pulling the strings? Or do you reckon Ubisoft is genuinely just trying to get gamers to play the game and enjoy it instead of scrutinising every little detail? Share your thoughts down in the comments section below.
