China has recently lifted the ban on home video game consoles, opening the doors for Microsoft, Sony and just about whoever else wants to sell their console in the country.
Microsoft has already launched the Xbox One in China and has had a relatively successful time in doing so. We already knew that Sony planned on flogging their PS4 in the territory, but we didn’t know when.
According to a filing on the Pilot Free Trade Zone website, which has since been declared genuine by Masaki Tsukakoshi – a Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman – Sony hopes to distribute around 200,000 consoles each year in China, starting this December.
Looks like Microsoft may finally get some competition in China and we all know that competition is a good thing for the industry, even more so in China where it’s just getting started again after all these years.
