DriveClub recently received a much needed update, although it hasn’t been to everyone’s benefit, there is some good news; a first person walking mode may be made available in the future.
Replying to a fans tweet, DriveClub director Paul Rustchynsky stated that if there’s enough interest in a first person walking mode they may look into it.
@NanoSaibou There are no current plans to, but if the request is popular enough we might look into it.

Regarding the mobile companion app, the director claims that the app is ready to launch as soon as the server issues have been resolved.
@Disturbed932 It is ready to launch as soon as we fix the server side issues, as it relies on the DRIVECLUB servers to be fully operational. — Paul Rustchynsky (@Rushy33) October 11, 2014
He also responded to fans complaints that the new update actually made the game worse (which we can confirm, it has made getting online a bit harder,) with promises of more fixes on the way.
@acdramon The game update was to allow us to help fix the problems. Apologies for the issues you’re facing, we’re working on it.

Also worth noting is that the USA won’t receive the latest update for another 48 hours, so if you reside in the good ol’ US of A, you’ll have to wait and see if the new update helps or hinders your game.
I would personally love a first-person walking around mode, let’s hope that Evolution implements it into the game at some point! Why not head over to twitter and nag the developers and show your support, it may help the poor buggers through this stressful period.
