Far Cry 3 had one of the best video-game villains of all time – Vaas. The insane antagonist and his quirky mannerisms, all aided by a fantastic performance by Michael Mando, really made Far Cry 3 one of 2012’s standout releases.
Ubisoft are looking to replicate that same result with yet another seemingly crazy bad-guy – Pagan Min. The character’s reveal certainly made sure that players would remember him, how couldn’t you? The flamboyant narcissistic dictator just attracts the eye with his bright purple outfit contrasting with the bleached blonde hair.
Make no mistake though, Ubisoft didn’t just copy the winning formula that made Vaas such a fearsome foe. According to Lucien Soulban of Ubisoft, the creation process of Pagan Min was an entirely different experience and wasn’t as quick and easy as pulling Vaas from thin air.
“Vaas was lightning in a bottle; it happened and we all kind of looked at each other and went ‘that’s a really interesting performance’, and just took it from there. Pagan Min was more of us looking at the process, getting into rooms and arguing.” said Soulban. “We had several different versions of Pagan Min before this one. Versions that will never see the light of day, you’ll never recognise. We didn’t like them, we opened up the cellar door, kicked them down into the cellar and then locked it. They’re done, they’re gone”
Pagan Min looks to be a formidable opponent, but what about the weapons you’ll be using to bring down his empire? Well, according to the Creative Director of Far Cry 4, the game will feature some old weapons that are familiar to players but there’s also going to be some new additions to the stack of weapons available, even hinting that some have been re-invented for the game.
Far Cry 4 is shaping up to be on of this years biggest hits, provided that people can look past the ongoing frame rate and resolution non-issue.
Far Cry 4 is out from November 18th and will be available on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360. You can pre-order from Amazon UK and get some exclusive DLC, lovely!
