Hackers aren’t always bad, sometimes they do some good. Take Jeff Goldblum’s character in Independence Day; he hacks the extra-terrestrial systems and uploads a virus that saves humanity from being wiped out. Great job Jeff!
Not all hackers have good intentions though. Notorious hacking group Lizard Squad have been in the press quite a bit over the last couple of months for their series of attacks.
Now the group claims that they will be hitting Microsoft’s Xbox Live service on the birthday of Baby Jesus, December 25th – Christmas Day.
Posting on Twitter the group stated:
“This is not a threat but a promise. On December 25th aka Christmas. We will tap into Microsoft and shut down Xbox Live, FOREVER! So enjoy it while it lasts. – Lizard Squad.”
It’s a bold claim by the despised group, but there’s not much chance they’ll take it down forever, so rest easy – all those achievements you’ve grinded for will probably still be there on Christmas morning.
Microsoft hasn’t responded to the claims yet, but we’ve made contact with the firm to see if there’s any credible threat to their service and we’ll let you know when we know more.
