Here’s an odd one for you; SEGA want’s to turn their portfolio of retro games into live-action and animated TV series’ and movies.
Strange? Definitely. According to sources, SEGA will attempt to cash-in on their nostalgic games from yesteryear including Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi and Virtua Fighter.
Yes, they’re seriously going down that route.
SEGA hasn’t had the best of times over the last few years, in fact they’ve been in a somewhat steady decline for a long while now. Most games published under the SEGA banner are mediocre and even their own mascot Sonic the Hedgehog has fallen on hard time, so hard in fact he’s now calling his former rival Mario a friend and even staying over in Nintendoland.
As any gamer will know, movie adaptations of popular video-games just don’t do so well, just look at Hitman (it’s actually not that bad,) Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and the downright criminally awful Max Payne. Heck, I wish SEGA the best but whether this will turn out to be a good venture for the firm remains to be seen.
Which SEGA franchises would you like to see as a TV series/movie? Or would you rather not tarnish the memories of your childhood? Let us know down in the comments section below.
