It’s widely believed that Call of Duty developer Treyarch are busy crafting a brand new Call of Duty experience which is set to release later on this year.
Historically the PC versions of Call of Duty have played generally well, but many fans of the PC platform often feel let-down by the lack of PC specific features. However, it looks like Treyarch has heard the cries of PC players and are looking to buck the trend with their next title.
A new job posting over on the Treyarch Corporation LinkedIn page hints that the developers may be paying the growing PC platform a bit more attention that usual.
Treyarch is looking for a top-tier Senior Graphics Engineer to join our studio and be a key contributor on our next AAA game. The ideal candidate will also be a dedicated team player, and be flexible to the day-to-day needs of the project.
What you’ll be doing:
• Pursue PC specific optimizations and features.
• Fix platform and configuration specific bugs.
• Analyse, refactor and improve existing graphics/engine technology and tools.
• Research and implement new graphics technology and tools.
• Work with other Graphics Engineers for the purpose of mentoring and time management.
The skills & experience you’ll need:
• 5 years or more experience in the video games industry as an Engineer, with at least two shipped commercial titles.
• Experience with Direct3D/OpenGL (console graphics APIs a plus)
• Strong 3D math skills
• Experience with graphics profilers and debuggers
• Fluent in modern C++ (experience with templates/STL is a plus)
• Strong understanding of low level CPUs/GPUs operations
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Work well in a team environment
Some previous games in the Call of Duty franchise have suffered from poor optimisation (though not the worst examples, cough, Ubisoft,) so it’s a good sign for those who opt to shoot their friends in the face on the PC versions of the worlds most popular shooter.
It’s a bit ironic that the Call of Duty games have somewhat suffered on the PC when the platform was originally the birth place of the franchise. Yes, Call of Duty was born on the PC and adopted by consoles.
Last years’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was actually pretty good on PC, but there’s definitely room for improvement so we’re looking forward to seeing what Treyarch has in mind.
