Earlier today we reported that Ubisoft Montreal are supposedly working on some “rad new stuff” that contain some “crazy things,” as it was said by Ubisoft’s Alex Hutchinson.
So what are these new things? What can we expect from them? How about a crossover game between two of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises?
Alex Hutchinson mentioned in an interview recently that Ubisoft Montreal may be making some announcements later on this year regarding their new “rad” stuff.
How does a crossover game sound? Ridiculous? It’s actually not that ludicrous of an idea.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
We already know that two of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises exist within the same universes – Assassin’s Creed and the relatively new Watch Dogs.
By piecing together clues within Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs, players have been able to figure out that there’s a link between the two worlds.
Not only that, but don’t they share some similarities? Open worlds, parkour, shady organisations – it’s all there.
So could these crazy things that Ubisoft are trying out be a crossover title? It’s a definite possibility. Ubisoft may leave little easter eggs here and there within their different games, little nods to players who’re in the know, but to leave something as big as what was left in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs? It’s the first time where one easter egg in a Ubisoft game is the result of a direct action in another, something that has in-universe implications, something the developer may explore later on.
The Assassin’s Creed games have grown a little stale over the years and Watch Dogs didn’t get the critical acclaim that Ubisoft expected, so both franchises could do with a swift kick up the rear end to push them to the forefront of the gaming public’s mind.
Ubisoft may be making some new announcements this year, so be on the lookout around E3 2015 as that’s when they’re most likely to announce any new titles, intellectual properties and so forth.
Personally, my money is going on Assassin’s Creed: Watch Dogs for 2016. You heard it here first.
