Starbreeze Studios, the team behind the critically acclaimed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, are no longer the owners of the intellectual property after completing the sale of all trademarks and game assets to Italian publisher 505 Games.
The sale, which comes to the grand sum of $500,000 “represents our final transition to the digital strategy,” said Bo Andersson Klint, Starbreeze’s CEO, going on to say that “with Brothers we’ve created a strong and critically acclaimed IP, which we now feel can be best nurtured under a new owner. Going forward, we will continue development focused on expansive design, a concept proven with the Payday franchise. Brothers will continue to generate awe and admiration for the great storytelling standard Josef Fares set under 505 Games’ watchful eye.”
It does mean however, that should there be a sequel, which is extremely likely, it will be published by 505 Games who also published Payday 2, Sniper Elite III and the zombie title How To Survive.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons originally released in 2013 and went on to receive critical acclaim for its story telling techniques and unique gameplay that saw players control the titular Brothers at the same time.
