Pokemon is best when played with friends, which is why you might be wondering if Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is playable in co-op.. Whether that’s taking on Max Raid Dens together in Sword and Shield, meeting up on Community Days in Pokemon Go, trading, or battling online with people all across the globe, this franchise brings people together like no other.
One feature that fans have been requesting for years is the ability to play co-op in the mainline Pokemon games. Whilst Sword and Shield allowed you to vaguely interact with other players in the Wild Area, this feature left much (and I stress, MUCH) to be desired.
It seems our prayers have been answered because Pokemon Scarlet and Violet both have co-op multiplayer. This guide will take you through how this new game mode will work, how to access co-op, and what you can do in multiplayer.
- Here’s all the info we have on Scarlet and Violet so far!
How Do You Access Co-Op?
To access co-op in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players must first head to the Union Circle. Prior to the game’s release, not much is known about this social hub. We imagine it’ll be very similar to previous online connectivity portals, such as the Union Room is Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The most likely scenario is you interact with an NPC and select what activity you want to partake in. Once there, you can invite up to three other players to join you.

What Can You Do in Scarlet and Violet Co-Op?
There are a lot of co-op features currently revealed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. These include Tera Raid Battles, which allow you and your friends to collect Terastal Pokemon. This is the new Pokemon gimmick unique to Scarlet and Violet. There will also be the classics, including online battles and trades. Finally, you’ll be able to access the Poke Portal. This brand-new feature allows you and up to three friends to explore Paldea together. You can get up to loads more in multiplayer, and we’ve broken it down for you here.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
