Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will no doubt sell by the truck-load when it releases later this year, but before it does hit the shelves we’ll be seeing a beta, something of a rarity for the franchise.
Sometimes publishers like to promote lesser games by including beta codes within them, a bit like Wolfenstein: The New Order contained beta access for the latest Doom game.
That’s not the case with Black Ops 3, as confirmed by Treyarch’s Twitter-friendly David Vonderhaar who was asked by an eager fan if the beta would be on a disc, to which he stated that it’s “reasonable to assume you’ll download it.”
He also mentions that the design goals for Black Ops 3 haven’t changed from Black Ops 2. When asked if the streaks system will still feel as rewarding as it does in Black Ops 2, the public face of Treyarch said that “the design goals haven’t changed, so I hope so.”
At the moment we can only be sure that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC, though rumour has it that the last-gen consoles will still be getting a Call of Duty this year.
While many will argue the merits of having a last-gen release, which next-gen console will play it better, etc etc, Treyarch seem quietly confident that the PC version will be reigning supreme this time around. When asked if the PC version of Black Ops 3 will be a great port like Black Ops 2 and World at War, the developer stated that they “think this will be our best pc title yet, designed for pc and developed concurrently with the other platforms.”
Traditionally the PC versions of Call of Duty have suffered from dodgy optimisation and various other mishaps, but as we previously reported, it looks like Treyarch are determined to do right by the PC gaming community.
