Three months ago to this day we made a few predictions as to what we’d be seeing in the world of gaming this coming year. Surprisingly, those predictions seem to be quite accurate, even the most far-out prediction: a new Nintendo console.
Back in January we predicted that Nintendo would be banging together a new console with the aim to show it off at this year’s E3 ahead of a 2016 release. OK, it’s not 100% on target, but damn that’s pretty close.
We also reckoned that Activision would make use of the famous Tony Hawk name once again with another installment in the franchise. Again, we weren’t spot on – we thought it’d be Tony Hawks Underground 3, but still, not a bad guess, right?
Finally, Nintendo again. To be fair, this one was more of a joke than a real prediction, but you read it here first: Nintendo to go mobile. Yep, thanks to sarcasm and the need to fill a few more lines, we predicted that Nintendo would be releasing games on smartphones and tablets.
Move over Michael Pachter, The Games Cabin knows what’s up.
Well, not really. We actually massively failed in our estimation of Sony’s position on the PS Vita: we actually thought that Sony Bend would be putting out a brand new game for the under-performing handheld, something to reinvigorate interest in the poor thing. Back to the crystal ball we go…
There’s still a few other predictions that we’ve not seen come to fruition yet, mainly because they focus around this year’s E3 and the subsequent conferences. We called Ubisoft announcing a new Splinter Cell, minus Eric Johnson giving Sam Fisher a voice and a sequel to The Last of Us. Prediction on our prediction? Splinter Cell will be shown, but the chances of The Last of Us 2 being announced are looking pretty slim. Forgive us?
What are you predictions for this year? Got any out-there theories you’d like to share? We’d love to hear em’!
