All Paradox Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet provide a unique twist on established fan favourites. This new variant is quite unlike other forms of Pokemon seen throughout the Pokemon series. Here’s an overview of all the Paradox Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and what players should know about them.

What Are Paradox Pokemon?
The existence of Paradox Pokemon in general was first leaked by Centro Leaks in July of 2022. They are a group of new Pokemon based on existing creatures, but with either an ancient or futuristic theme. This concept can be clearly seen through the games’ box Legendaries, as Koraidon and Miraidon can be considered Paradox forms of Cyclizar.
The “paradox” of these monsters is that they are not actually related to the modern-day Pokemon they resemble. Like Wiglett in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they are completely independent Pokemon rather than a branched evolutionary line or an alternate form.
Interestingly, Paradox Pokemon besides the box Legendaries follow a unique naming convention. They all have two-word names that describe basic features of their appearance. This differs from most other Pokemon, which have names that are portmanteaus of existing words or made-up words altogether.
All Ancient Paradox Pokemon
Given the prehistoric aesthetic of both Koraidon and Professor Sada, it is unsurprising that all ancient Paradox Pokemon are exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet. These Pokemon have designs resembling mammoths, dinosaurs, and other animals from the distant past.
Here are all of these ancient monsters, including the modern-day Pokemon they resemble and what their types are:
- Great Tusk (Donphan) – Ground/Fighting
- Slither Wing (Volcarona) – Bug/Fighting
- Brute Bonnet (Amoonguss) – Grass/Dark
- Scream Tail (Jigglypuff) – Fairy/Psychic
- Flutter Mane (Misdreavus) – Ghost/Fairy
- Sandy Shocks (Magneton) – Electric/Ground
- Roaring Moon (Salamence) – Dragon/Dark
All Futuristic Paradox Pokemon
Meanwhile, all futuristic Paradox Pokemon can only be found in Pokemon Violet, as would be expected given the high-tech designs of Miraidon and Professor Turo. The future Pokemon all have digitized and robotic designs. Interestingly, all of their names begin with the word “Iron.”
Here are the futuristic creatures players can encounter in Pokemon Violet:
- Iron Treads (Donphan) – Ground/Steel
- Iron Moth (Volcarona) – Fire/Poison
- Iron Valiant (Gallade/Gardevoir) – Fairy/Fighting
- Iron Hands (Hariyama) – Fighting/Electric
- Iron Bundle (Delibird) – Ice/Water
- Iron Jugulis (Hydreigon) – Dark/Flying
- Iron Thorns (Tyranitar) – Rock/Electric
In addition, there are reportedly Paradox versions of Suicune and Virizion, although these two do not currently appear in the game files. As a result, it is possible that they will join Pokemon Scarlet and Violet later as downloadable content.
