CD Projekt Red has announced today that the studio has begun development of the new entry in The Witcher series of games, though the wording suggests this might be a little different.
The announcement, made on the CD Projekt official website, states that the next game will be kicking off a “new saga” for the franchise, suggesting that maybe everybody’s favourite silver-haired sex bomb, Geralt, will not be the star.
Another interesting point to note is that the new The Witcher game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 rather than the developer’s in-house REDengine, which currently powers Cyberpunk 2077 and will still be used for all future Cyberpunk 2077 content.
The post closes with a note stating that there are no further details to give at this time, such as a release date for the new The Witcher game. It’s also worth mentioning that no platforms were mentioned, though given that the game is likely a few years away and it’ll be using the cutting edge technology of Unreal Engine 5, it’s unlikely that it will release on PS4 and Xbox One, given that they’re not far off their tenth birthdays.
Chances are, this is a long way out and if life keeps on being a stress-fest and I refrain from chopping my locks, I’ll end up looking like Geralt before the fourth The Witcher game releases…
