What is Darkest Dungeon?
[Video] Darkest Dungeon Release Trailer
Darkest Dungeon is an RPG where the player has to navigate through many dungeons until completing the Darkest Dungeon, where the game takes it’s name. Doing so, however is not an easy task.
Darkest Dungeon is a really hard game, where the only way to learn is failing, the game can set you back even at the last levels, the risk is really high the more you advance.
Ruin has found you

Ahhh that soothing voice from the narrator, eases all that ruin and puts a smile on my face.
Let’s first revisit the information we got before this trailer. This is from the page on Epic Store.
- As travels progress, heroes bond with each other or grate on each others’ nerves, leading to desperately needed combat synergies or journey-ending dysfunction. Manage their stress and interaction to keep the team together until the bitter end.
- Rest your weary, shell-shocked heroes at the Inn, where you can manage their stress and relationships with a variety of diversions and delights.
- Uncover and experience the tragic origin stories of the heroes.
- A stylish and dynamic evolution of Darkest Dungeon’s signature art style.
- A return of the narration system and voice actor Wayne June!
- Exciting improvements to the turn-based combat from Darkest Dungeon.
The most impactful from the list is the return of the narrator, obviously, but next is the addition of an affinity system that we can barely see on the trailer, so how does this system works exactly is still a mystery.
From the look of it, it will function similar to how afflictions work on the first game, depending on the name it will give a certain effect.
The inn will also receive changes now it won’t be just a place to reduce stress, but also forge relationships and who knows what else, sadly, the trailer does not answer anything.
However, something that does appear on the trailer that we can begin to understand is how the missions work.
Now instead of having the advantage of getting on foot at all the dungeons, we will have to go there through a cart, and if you look at the embark screen on the trailer, you will notice, heroes health is not full.
This can mean one of two things on my mind, maybe even both: Heroes don’t replenish their health anymore or at least not fully, and they have to rest at the inn and food for that, or, they can get hurt on the way to the dungeon in the cart.
I’m inclined to think both because on the same screen we can see how the cart is also prepared and when the cart is shown, heroes health is on the bottom.
So not only the dungeons and monsters are scary, but also the road to said dungeons can kill you, bad news for poor old me, but also exciting for good old masochist me.
Finally, now we apparently have more currencies, with that yellow, blue and purple symbols there, and routes we can take, that, depending on danger I would assume grants more of that currency. MORE MANAGEMENT YIPEEEEEEE.
Darkest Dungeon II will release on Early access, so this is just the beginning of this quest. Release date is 26 this month.
