Graphics
Graphically speaking, The Evil Within is right up there with the best of what the PS4 and Xbox One have to offer. Characters are well detailed as are the incurable monsters that inhabit the twisted world. In fact, the enemies are probably the most detailed aspect of the game, dripping blood spatters the ground and the sheer amount of detail on them is astounding to the point of disgusting. If you have a weak stomach, I would recommend leaving The Evil Within alone after eating, it’s pretty gruesome.
Though the main character may seem a bit bland in the personality department, the character model is fairly impressive. The high resolution textures are shown off wonderfully as you meander around.
The true graphical prowess is really shown in the environments which bring the game to life., The creepy nuance, the lights flickering and the general feel of the game are all executed superbly. There are a few graphical flaws every now and again; a dodgy looking wall with low-resolution textures, some items looking a bit flat and deprived of attention and the occasional pop-in textures. It’s a good effort and should be seen as such. Just think; if this is what the first batch of next-gen games look like, just wait until five years down the line. For the mean time, the gruesome designs in The Evil Within will more than suffice.
The Evil Within is out now on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
As I always say in review; don’t base your buying choice off of reviews. These are just the opinions of one person and you may feel differently. If in doubt, pay a few quid and get a rent of it or nip over to a mates house and have a go on their copy. That way you can get a feel for the game and make a better informed decision as to whether you want to plonk down the cash.
