One of our pet peeves when it comes to the PS Vita and remote play is that many developers just don’t seem to give a damn. Many a time we’ve booted a game up to give it a go via remote play, only to find it’s a piss-poor experience due to no thought being given to those who may play it on the console.
Not all developers are terrible at it; Ubisoft actually excels in putting together workable controls for its PS4 titles. Heck, even Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a pleasure to play on the handheld – even if the sticks are a little tough to master.
So what about this year’s biggest games that are still yet to release? We can’t be sure about any of them to be honest, but we do have some assurances that Fallout 4 on PS Vita with remote play will be a playable affair: the guy who had a hand in the superb remote play controls for Destiny is working on Fallout 4’s remote play control mapping.
This is all good and well, but it’s still not going to be quite the same as playing with a DualShock 4, is it? The Vita’s sticks just aren’t up to the task of first-person shooters, at least not on a competitive level. We can’t pass judgement just yet as we’ve not given it a go, but when we do get some hands-on time with Fallout 4, the first thing we’ll do is test out the remote play capabilities.
