Here’s a funny bit of news for you, a Danish TV station reporting on the ongoing conflict in Syria has used an image from the popular Assassin’s Creed series.
Instead of actually finding a picture of the real life Syria, some daft bugger used a screenshot from Assassin’s Creed, something that was picked up on almost immediately by those familiar with the series.
It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a bit of an embarrassment for the channel, who will no doubt be double checking the source of future images to avoid this sort of thing happening again. Just imagine, a report on Somali pirates and an image of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag accompanying it, that would surely get somebody the sack.
Back in 2011, UK channel ITV actually went one further in using footage from realistic war-game simulator Arma II during a news report. I know graphics are getting better and better as technology moves forward, but seriously? Arma II is good-looking, but there’s a clear difference between video games a real life.
Another occasion of video games getting mixed with the news was, well this is less widely-known, but back in my home town in sunny North Wales, a local paper actually used images from Grand Theft Auto IV in a report on local crime. Yeah. I know.
