It looks like Apple’s newly announced Apple TV will actually become a viable platform for gaming, at least in some form. While high-end experiences like Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and others are unlikely to find their way to the pricey set-top box, some fairly decent games will find an audience.
Activision has announced with a press release that it will be releasing the upcoming Guitar Hero Live, Skylanders SuperChargers and the crazy-addictive Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved on the Apple TV as well as the mobile range of iOS devices.
Players will be able to use the newly designed guitar peripheral to play Guitar Hero live, as well as the gamepad/remote for more traditional games such as Skylanders SuperChargers and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved.
We’re not too sure that the Apple TV really has the capability to kick the current – or even the last-gen consoles – out of the traditional living room. It’s a really expensive bit of kit to begin with, plus, it’s just not going to be able to offer the same experiences as a dedicated games consoles.
What do you guys think? Is the Apple TV something you’d be interested in gaming on, or is it just another pricey piece of hardware that you’ll be avoiding?
