Here’s how to respec your stats in Elden Ring. Have a look at all the Larval Tear locations and create a whole new build for your character.
There is no doubt that the journey of the Tarnished is long and difficult. So it is only natural for you to change your style in the middle of the journey. You might also want to change your character’s build altogether. Fortunately, it is possible for you to respec your character in Elden Ring. Unlike the previous games of FromSoftware, the latest action RPG allows you to reset your character stats.
Here’s everything you need to respec your character in Elden Ring. We also added a map to acquire the required items.
Elden Ring Respec Guide
While it is possible to reset the stats of your build, you will not be able to do it in the early game. You need to head to the Academy of Raya Lucaria and fight Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Beating Rennala will give you the chance to “Rebirth” which allows you to create a character from ground up. Of course, you will get to keep your Runes to spend them on your new stats.
Before we talk about the whole respec process, note that it is also possible to reach Liurnia without beating the first boss. To skip the castle, Magrit, the Fell Omen and Godrick the Grafted, you need to head to the east and follow the bridge around the Stormveil Castle. That being said, we actually recommend confronting Godrick the Grafted. Fighting the first great boss of Elden Ring should give you an idea of your character’s performance. Most classes get quite powerful as they progress. So before starting over and getting used to a new build, test your current stats on the battlefield.
If you decided to respec and spend your hard-earned Runes on a brand new build though, here’s how to do it.
How to respec in Elden Ring?
As we mentioned earlier, you need to fight Queen Rennala to unlock the ability to respec your character. She is located in the Academy of Raya Lucaria, which is the main landmark of Liurnia.
After the boss fight is over, you will be able to talk to the defeated queen. This is where you get to reset your stats. Talking to her will activate a window that gives you the option to have a “Rebirth”.
Of course, Rebirth means you get to allocate all the Runes you have collected until that point. You will also be able to design your character’s appearance from scratch.
But the respec process requires a special item called the Larval Tear. If you do not have this item, you won’t be able to reset your character’s stats.
Here’s how to find Larval Tear in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Larval Tear Locations
Larval Tears are one of the most valuable items in Elden Ring. They are quite difficult to find as there are only 18 Larval Tears scattered around the Lands Between. Considering the massive size of the world, it is safe to say that there are very rare.
Here’s a map to see all Larval Tear locations.
It is important to note that Larval Tears are usually dropped by shapeshifting enemies. In certain regions of the world like Nokron, Liurnia, Limgrave and others, you will come across foes that change their appearance after getting hit.
They will drop Larval Tears if you can defeat them.
Where to buy Larval Tear in the Lands Between?
You can also buy Larval Tear from a few merchants. We listed the only two that sell the rare item if you have the Runes for it.
- One of the merchants that can sell you the tear can be found in Liurnia. You can find the Carian Servant Pidia at the southeastern part of the Three Sisters. He sells Larval Tear for 3000 Runes.
- The underground land of the Lands Between, Siofra River also has a merchant that will give you the item for the same amount of runes. The Nomadic Merchant will require you to pay 3000 Runes.
You don’t have to build a new character from the ground up. If there is a certain weapon you can not use due to your low Strength, just give a few levels to it. Know that you will not get extra Runes in the respec process, though.
In cases like these, we do not recommend you to respec your build. Simply farm some more Runes to increase that certain attribute.
