Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the latest games in the Pokemon franchise. Packed with new features, Pokemon and characters, these games are certainly another step away from the tried and tested formula of previous mainline Pokemon games.
The Pokemon franchise recently dipped its toes into open-world design in Legends Arceus and the Generation 8 games – Sword and Shield. Generation 8 had the Wild Area – an open-world hub zone in the middle of Galar that the player could freely explore. Fans praised the ambition but were critical of its execution. Legends Arceus built on this idea, creating large hub worlds that could be explored one at a time. Fans praised its approach to world-building and exploration, but again, lamented the fact that Ancient Sinnoh wasn’t fully open-world.

How will it work?
According to PokemonNewsUK, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will let players venture out into Paldea pretty much immediately. There will be three narrative paths you can complete in any order, meaning your interaction with the world will not be “dictated by the story.” Of course, we imagine it’ll be too dangerous to go into the tall grass without a Pokemon, so you’ll probably have to pick up your starter first. But then you can explore the world without the constraints the previous mainline games set.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
